Soft opening for Tron ride starts Monday – Orlando Sentinel

Walt Disney World is getting a jump start on its grand opening of Tron Lightcycle / Run roller coaster by offering a “soft opening” beginning Monday. The official debut of the Magic Kingdom roller coaster is set for April 4.

Disney will use a virtual queue for the attraction during the soft open, much as it will for its regular use. Visitors will be assigned loading groups through the My Disney Experience app, and there will be two daily windows for requests. The first starts at 7 a.m. and potential riders don’t have to be in the theme park at that time, but they must have a theme park reservation for that day for Magic Kingdom.

The second daily opportunity will be at 1 p.m., and visitors must be within the theme park to join the virtual queue.

If assigned a loading group, the app will notify riders once it’s their turn to go to the entrance of the Tomorrowland coaster, which is next door to Space Mountain, Disney World’s first coaster.

Disney World’s website says the soft openings will run through April 2.

There will be no standby line for Tron Lightcycle / Run either during the soft opening or after it’s in regular operation.

This virtual queue system has been used for other Disney attractions, including Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, a thrill ride that opened at Epcot last spring.

Tron Lightcycle / Run has been put through its paces for several weeks with previews for Disney employees, annual passholders and members of the media.
