Professor Sprout’s Greenhouse comes to Warner Bros. Studio Tour

Elen Salzburg April 20, 2022

Professor Sprout’s greenhouse is a favorite setting for fans of the Harry Potter film series, and now it’s a walk-through experience at the Warner Bros. Studios Tour – The Making of Harry Potter in London.

Harry Potter and his friends took Herbology lessons from Professor Pomona Sprout, and the students potting screaming baby Mandrakes was a memorable scene from “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.”

Now, the glass doors leading to the greenhouse will swing open on July 1, 2022, as a permanent exhibit in the Warner Bros. Studio Tour.

The original filmmakers from the Harry Potter movies built the new setting, which will be home to exotic and magical plants.

Visitors will be able to pull a Mandrake from its pot and view a Venomous Tentacula hanging from the ceiling as they explore the interactive environment.

The greenhouse will open as part of a new exhibit, “Mandrakes and Magical Creatures,” a limited-time experience which will welcome visitors into the Great Hall with a performance by the Frog Choir.

Props such as the costume of the Frog Choir conductor, Professor Flitwick (played by actor Warwick David) will be on display.

“Mandrakes and Magical Creatures” will be offered from July 1-September 12, 2022.

During their visit to the Studio Tour fans will also see magical creatures such as Cornish Pixies; Dumbledore’s phoenix Fawkes; and the animatronic Monster Book of Monsters.

Guests will also learn how Thestrals and Mandrakes were “brought to life” in the films, using a mixture of scale models and CGI in the Creatures Workshop.

Along with the new indoor setting and enhancements, the tour will expand its exterior backlot sets with the addition of a fountain from Hogwarts courtyard and a 1:3 scale version of the Weasley’s Burrow.

The Burrow will be a permanent exhibit that invites fans to learn about the camera trickery used in external scenes of the Weasley’s home, as seen in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.” The scene took 14 weeks to film, but it only took six minutes to burn down The Burrow in the scene where the Death Eaters set the home on fire.
