Elen Salzburg October 2, 2022

Tracey, Theme Park Designer, the latest book in the Look Up kids book series, introduces kids to a woman who uses her unique way of thinking to turn art into theme park experiences families love.

The nonfiction biography series from award-winning American Girl author Aubre Andrus invites 8- to 12-year-old kids into the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (S.T.E.A.M.) by introducing diverse female role models in S.T.E.A.M. careers through a combination of biographical content, actionable advice, and hands-on activities.

In Tracy, Theme Park Designer, young readers learn how Tracey blends art and science to create theme park attractions and then follow a step-by-step process to create their own ride idea.

“I desperately wanted to be an Imagineer –  and even mailed a letter to Disney Imagineering when I was 10,” Andrus told us. “Tracey, Theme Park Designer […] teaches all about how theme park attractions are created […] it’s the book I wish I had when I was a kid.”

The goals of the Look Up series are to promote the following:

  • Gender Equality – Close the gender gap in S.T.E.M. while normalizing women in S.T.E.M.
  • Diversity – Highlight diversity in S.T.E.M.
  • Scientific Thinking – S.T.E.M. activities encourage kids to take action and apply scientific principles to their everyday lives.
  • Female Leadership – Introduce kids to modern role models who are educated career women, leaders, and explorers.
  • Global Mindset – Encourage kids to be curious and kind and to embrace differences.

Other titles in the series are Amanda, Toy Engineer; Dr. Maya, Ice Cream Scientist; Zi, Video Game Developer; and Angella, Beauty Chemist.
