The North Carolina native canceled a gig that had been schedule for this past Saturday at the AT&T Center in order to see the Tar Heels take on Duke in New Orleans.
UNC won, 81-77.
Not surprisingly, some of his fans weren’t happy with his decision.
Church on social media said that in order to make things right he’ll be playing a free show for ticketholders at the Whitewater Amphitheater in New Braunfels on Sept. 2. New Braunfels is near San Antonio.
Church, a lifelong North Carolina fan, last week announced the cancellation in a message posted on the Ticketmaster website.
“As a lifelong Carolina basketball fan, I’ve watch Carolina and Duke battle over the years but to have them matchup for the first time in the history of the NCAA Tournament is any sports enthusiasts dream,” he wrote.
“This is also the most selfish thing I’ve ever asked the Choir to do: to give up your Saturday night plans with us so that I can have this moment with my family and sports community,” he continued. “However, it’s that same type of passion felt by the people who fill the seats at our concerts that makes us want to be part of a crowd at a game of this significance.”
Ticketholders were given automatic refunds. Church in his social media post said more details about the Sept. 2 show are forthcoming.
