Disney Wish hits the water for the first time

Disney Cruise Line’s highly-anticipated new ship, the Disney Wish, hit the water for the first time when she floated out of an enclosed building dock at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

It took about five hours and 29 million gallons of water from the River Ems to flood the building dock, allowing the Wish to float out with only three feet of clearance on either side. As the world got its first look at Disney’s beautiful new ship, the milestone was celebrated in true Disney style with fireworks, musical fanfare, and a special appearance by Captain Minnie Mouse.

When it sets sail on its maiden voyage on July 14, 2022, from Port Canaveral, Fla., the Disney Wish will offer innovative new experiences, including the first-ever Disney attraction at sea, immersive dining experiences themed to “Frozen” and Marvel, and a high-end lounge set in the Star Wars galaxy.

The Disney Wish is the first of three new Disney Cruise Line ships that will be built at the Meyer Werft shipyard through 2025.
