The new “Haunted Mansion” movie wont’ be released in theaters on July 28, 2023, but today, a teaser trailer was released, giving fans a view into the mansion.
The trailer opens with viewers arriving at the mansion to hear the words “welcome home.” Guests are then invited to enter a world inspired by the classic theme park attraction, and featuring a talented cast, including Lakeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny Devito, Rosario Dawson, Chase W. Dillion, Dan Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jared Leto.
With this teaser, Disney warns viewers “Home is Where the Haunt is.”
This House Plays Tricks on You
“This house has a way of playing tricks on you,” Rosario Dawson says in the trailer.
The main characters, a mother-son combination played by Dawson and Dillion, enter the mansion, but things seem terrible, and they recruited help to clean up the spirits of this haunted mansion. According to Disney, the mother and son enlist a motley crew of so-called “spiritual experts,” including Wilson, to help them rid their home of supernatural squatters.
Large portions of the trailer have the song “My House Without Windows” by Roy Orbison playing in the background, and the trailer reveals a look inside the mansion that are sure to make Disney theme park fans cheer and stretch when they see them.
“As a lifelong fan of the Haunted Mansion attraction, I’m beyond excited to share the teaser trailer for our new film adaptation featuring an incredible cast,” said the movie’s Director Justin Simien. “Our team has worked tirelessly to create a scary, funny and cinematic otherworldly adventure for both new and die-hard fans to enjoy! I can’t wait for audiences to experience this big screen version of the iconic Disney attraction.”
Hat-Box Ghost in the “Haunted Mansion” movie
Jared Leto plays the Hat-Box Ghost, a character who appeared in the Haunted Mansion attraction initially, but was removed over technical issues at Magic Kingdom. However, at the D23Expo 2022, Disney announced the Hat-Box ghost would return to the Walt Disney World attraction. The “Haunted Mansion” movie also stars Jamie Lee Curtis playing Madame Leota.
In the trailer, Danny DeVito also cautions, “Be careful, death lurks around every corner,” as a warning to foolish mortals regarding the Haunted Mansion.
