Big donut inspires new Everglazed menu item for Doughnut Day

Everglazed Donuts & Cold Brew is now selling a baked good that looks like the giant one perched atop its Disney Springs roof. The aqua-icing with orange sprinkles treat arrives just in time for National Doughnut Day.

Customers have been asking for handheld, edible versions of the architecture since the store opened in early 2021, said Allen Morrison, general manager. It has been dubbed the icon doughnut.

The new item’s flavor is neither blueberry nor brick. It’s a colorized version of Everglazed’s vanilla-sprinkled doughnut, which is now off the menu.

“Sprinkles taste the same no matter what color they are,” Morrison said.

Everglazed is celebrating the addition by expanding National Doughnut Day to a three-day event that wraps up Sunday. During this period, customers who buy a half-dozen doughnuts will receive a free Everglazed T-shirt that includes the catchphrase “born & glazed.”

It will also distribute “I Support National Donut Week” stickers (think “I voted”).

The store is also featuring a Pride doughnut loaded with rainbow sprinkles, and in July there will be a Dreamsicle-inspired variety, a salute to the Florida citrus industry.

Everglazed is known for hefty doughnuts and toppings, including some with bacon, graham crackers, breakfast cereals such as Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Nutella, cookies and candy bars.

There’s trial and error and taste-testing involved in the research and development phase, Morrison said.

“The R&D is always a lot of fun when it comes to those. We do have our corporate chefs that have all these ideas in their mind,” he said.

“It’s really a lot of R&D, just going to the store and buying a bunch of different toppings and kind of seeing what works. … They definitely have an idea of what they want to do, and they just start playing with it,” Morrison said.

“We always embrace the fun ones.”

Everglazed is located in the West Side neighborhood of Disney Springs between Splitsville and AMC Theaters. It’s open 9 a.m.-10 p.m. daily, but stays open until 11 p.m. on Saturdays.
