NEW YORK – A Broadway revival of “Funny Woman” is aiming to open up next year with Beanie Feldstein in the starring role originated by Barbra Streisand.
Producers introduced Wednesday that Feldstein, the “Booksmart” and “Lady Bird” actor, will star as Ziegfeld Follies comic Fanny Brice in spring 2022 at a Broadway theater to be announced.
“Funny Girl” has a rating by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill, with a e-book by Isobel Lennart. This will be the initial Broadway revival of the 1964 musical. Streisand gained an Oscar for the movie adaptation.
This will not be the initial time Feldstein has tackled the element: “The very first time I performed Fanny Brice was at my third birthday social gathering, in a head-to-toe leopard print outfit my mom designed for me. So, it’s secure to say that stepping into this legendary job, on Broadway and not in my family’s yard, is truly my lifelong dream occur real,” she said in a statement.
Rumors of a “Funny Girl” revival have swirled for yrs, with performers like Idina Menzel and Girl Gaga speculated to be connected to the display. Tunes include “People” and “Don’t Rain on My Parade.” Feldstein made her Broadway debut in 2017 in the Bette Midler-led revival of “Hello, Dolly!”

The new manufacturing of “Funny Girl” will be directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer, who also helmed “Hedwig and the Indignant Inch” and “Spring Awakening.” It will have a revised ebook by Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein.
