MILWAUKEE — Tomorrow marks the first day of the Wisconsin State Fair, complete with the new Peño Pretzel Popper Brats, those classic fair rides and cream puffs, and, of course, cows.
And there are plenty of ways to enjoy the fair at a discounted price.
Here’s how to score deals to enter the park on specific days:
Aug. 4: Donate some peanut butter
On opening day, get a $5 ticket by donating a jar of peanut butter or making a cash donation to the Hunger Task Force outside any admission entrance. The promotion is a part of Wells Fargo Day and runs from 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Aug. 5: Present an out-of-state ID
If you’re visiting the fair from out of state on Friday, Aug. 5, you’re in luck. When you present your out-of-state ID at any ticket window between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., you’ll get two adult admission tickets for $17 — two tickets for the price of one.
Aug. 10: Show your Meijer receipt
Those who shop at Meijer are getting an exclusive discount. If you spend $45 or more at a Meijer store between July 3 and Aug. 10, you can present your receipt to any ticket window and get $5 off one adult ticket. The promotion will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wed., Aug. 10.
Aug. 11: Be an educator
Prairie Farms Dairy will honor educators next Thursday, Aug. 11, with FREE admission when they present a school-issued ID or name badge. That promotion will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Aug. 14: Be a veteran, military personnel or their family member
Finally, on the last day of the festivities, State Fair will recognize veterans and military personnel by giving them (and up to three of their family members) FREE admission. All that’s needed is a Military ID, which can be presented between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to receive the promotion.
However, the deals don’t end there.
Kids can earn a free youth admission ticket up until Aug. 14 if they’re taking part in select summer reading programs at local libraries. That includes programs at Milwaukee, Waukesha, Jefferson, Racine, Walworth, Dodge, Ozaukee, Sheboygan and Washington County libraries. Teens can also earn free State Fair admission for reading at Milwaukee County libraries this summer.
